Our organization is derived of players from and towns surrounding the Joliet area. Although, we all come from different backgrounds there is one thing that brings us all together, baseball. Steel City Baseball’s  goals include building lifelong lasting bonds between teammates, coaches and the community. While most of the focus will be baseball related, we aim to help raise great men off the field.  Our organization intends to compete with the rest, while having fun doing so.

Joliet known as “J-Town,” is Illinois’ fastest growing city and one of the fastest growing in the Chicago metro area. Joliet was once a true blue collar city, with iron work sites heavily present. Steel fabrication echoed through the streets. Our name, colors and logos represent a piece of Joliet’s history. We wanted to capture what Joliet is, also including the iconic hat and shades that the Blue Brothers wore. It’s a busy place that offers something for just about everyone with its family-friendly atmosphere, thriving downtown district rich in history. Welcome home.

Founders

JoJo Romero and Jeremy Ernst

Our passion for baseball runs deep, and we are dedicated to sharing that passion with our players and families. We first connected playing high school ball in the late 2000s with Joliet Township. We have a true love for the game and also strive to be mentors. After 15+ years, we reconnected and went head first into coaching and developing great ball players. Our vision for each kid’s future is identical and we want to develop a player first organization to help them succeed both on and off the baseball field. Our goals are to help your player become a great baseball teammate and a great person in general!

Player and Parent agreement

Each player and their parents are expected to make the following commitments: (please read each one. Players will be held accountable for each and every one of the following.)

  1. I will attend all winter practices and training. All players are expected to attend. Few exceptions will be made and if an absence is necessary it must be communicated in advance.
  2. I commit to making sure my child arrives at games and practices on time. This means arriving 15 minutes early so that players have enough time to get situated prior to joining practice or pre-game preparations.
  3. I will make sure that my child is properly equipped, sun-protected, hydrated and fueled for practices and games. This includes proper uniforms, equipment, etc.
  4. I will show respect for the opposing team and umpires. At times, the opposing team may show disrespect or the umpires may make a bad call. The goal of our organization is to be respectful of everyone. We teach our kids to control what they can and respect for other people and the game falls into that category. Arguing will NOT be tolerated.
  5. Parents will stay away from the dugout during the games and allow coaches to coach. While this is not easy, this avoids potential conflicting messages during games and can be confusing. This may often contribute negatively to their ability to focus on the game and on their team. The only exception to this rule will be for injuries
  6. I will be a role model for my child regarding good sportsmanship, teamwork and self-worth. As your child begins his journey into adulthood, it's imperative that we behave accordingly. We will take pride in how we carry ourselves and treat others.
  7. I will be responsible for the behavior of all family members at games and practices.
  8. I will provide encouragement and support for my child, their teammates and coaches.
  9. I will get to know the team values and reinforce them with my child.
  10. I will support the coaching staff’s message. The seasoned coaching staff always has a plan. Put trust in them to do what's best for your child and the team.
  11. I will help my child embrace his role, no matter what it is. I may not agree with where my child hits or plays in the field, but it is important that I help my child embrace and master that role for the best possible experience.
  12. I will refrain from public complaints about coaching and other players with parents. While everyone is entitled to their opinion, this does not help the team morale and does not create an environment that parents and kids want to be a part of.
  13. Any and all concerns about playing time, position placement, etc. must come from players. As your child gets older he should be able to have a discussion with the coaching staff regarding these issues. Coaching staff will provide answers to players only.
  14. I will respect the challenges the coaching staff faces and the time commitment that they make. A lot of work goes on behind that scenes and sometimes coaches do not get the respect that's deserved. Coaching is a significant contribution of time and energy, often with the side effect of stress. Coaches are doing their best for your child and for the game that we all love.
  15. I will make payments for team fees as scheduled. Abiding by the payment schedule helps stay on track for payments for tournaments, uniforms, practice facilities and more. I understand that my child’s playing time could be in jeopardy if payments are not paid on time.
  16. Players are expected to attend all community service events. Our organization is aiming to develop great men on and off the field. Selfless acts will help us reach that goal.

I will do my best to follow these rules. While I am not expected to be perfect and we will all have our weak moments, the main goal is that I will make a consistent effort to help nurture a positive environment for all. However, it's important that I not consistently neglect or ignore these rules. Depending on the severity and frequency of my infractions, I understand that my actions may impact the standing of my child on this team.

I understand these rules, and I will do my best to always represent the Steel City Jailbirds and my child well.

I understand there is a zero-tolerance policy for harassment and/or bullying. Behaviors, actions, words or images in a verbal, physical, written, pictorial, video, or electronic form that are threatening, disturbing, intimidating, discriminatory, illegal, derogatory, cruel or unwanted-aimed directly or indirectly towards another person will not be tolerated. Violation of this policy will result in suspension from the team for the current season and a review by coaches for privilege to play the following season.
